Refugee children have the right to attend school at the earliest opportunity. They are obliged to attend school when they have lived in Norway for three months.

Children aged 6 to 15
The City of Oslo is obliged to provide primary school education to all children resident in Oslo within one month of their arrival. The children are obliged to attend school three months after they arrive in Norway.
Refugees who have been granted residence in Oslo
Parents must contact the nearest school to register their children. The school will guide you through the process.
Refugees waiting to be registered or to be granted residence in a municipality
The Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training in Oslo is working to find solutions for children who stay in Oslo for a short period.
Young people aged 16 to 18
Non-Norwegian-speakers aged 16 to 18 are entitled to receive language training. First, you must have your language skills assessed by the Oslo Adult Education Service. You will then be offered language training based on your proficiency level.

You are entitled to receive free language training and adult education. Contact Oslo Adult Education Service for information, advice and an application form.
